Description
This step-by-step introductory sewing & pattern cutting course will introduce you to the basic sewing technique as well as pattern cutting for womenswear. It will help you become familiar with the functionality of sewing machine and will build your confidence in sewing skills. For the pattern cutting section of this course, you will be working from a standard size 12 template (block) and you will have the opportunity to investigate different styles and how to make a range of pattern pieces for the bodice, skirt and sleeve.The course will also cover a brief introduction to sizing and how you can modify your patterns for a better fit. At the end of this course, you will leave us with a complete well tailored dress/skirt made to industrial standard.

What you will learn on the course:
- Functions and Threading of a sewing machine
- Standard stitches-Seaming curved edges
- Straight edges and gathered edges together
- Various seam types including: French seams and flat fell seams
- Simple buttonholes
- Zip installation
- Trimming work and pressing.
- Waistband  
- Facing
- Sleeve
- Bodice ( dart manipulation and style line )
- Skirt

Course level:
Beginners, No previous experience is required. However, You should have an interest in the subject area and a desire to learn in other to benefit from the course.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE CLASS:
In order to fully participate in the practical exercises please bring the following materials/equipment to the first class:

-pattern master ruler-Stiletto awl-Metric tape measure
-3/4 H pencils, eraser and sharpener
-Magic scotch tape
-Glue stick
-Fine pointed tracing wheel
-Fine dressmaker pins
-Felt tip pen (or marker)
-Fabric scissors, paper scissor, small sharp pointed scissors & stitch ripper
-Tailors chalk
-A4 file folder and sleeves
